I mean, we could have just said that people in Australia conducted a de facto and often violent campaign against the presence of particular non-white non-citizens, and the federal government responded by getting rid of the foreigners i.e. the campaign worked. Group of white kids, boys and girls, boy talking about his recent interactions with cops. When asked why the cops were after him, one of the boys answered "remember when I bashed that cabbie?", and they all smiled and remembered fondly. Now of course, since the mass expulsion of Indian students, cabbie is no longer necessarily code for Indian guy, but I think the odds are still pretty good.
